Mercedes-Benz Sprinter VS30 vehicles recalled for steering shaft repair

By Colleen Kave, J.D.

Company warns owners to stop driving vehicles immediately.

Daimler Vans USA, LLC has recalled around 4,358 2019 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter VS30 vehicles because the steering shaft that connects to the steering gear may disconnect without warning. The company cautions that the steering shaft disconnecting from the steering gear can cause a sudden loss of steering control, increasing risk of a crash (NHTSA Recall Notice, No. 19V070, Report receipt date: January 31, 2019).

Remedy. Daimler Vans will notify owners, advising them to stop driving the vehicles immediately. Dealers will inspect the bolts connecting the steering shaft to the steering gear, fully tightening and/or adjusting them, as necessary, free of charge.

Contact information. Owners may contact Daimler Van’s customer service at 1-800-367-6372. Daimler Van’s number for this recall is 2019010006. Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to
