Graco recalls inclined sleeper accessory in four playard models

By Susan Lasser, J.D.

The company has recalled the inclined sleeper accessory to prevent the risk of suffocation as has been reported with other companies’ products.

Graco Children’s Products Inc., of Atlanta, Georgia, has recalled the inclined sleeper accessory included with four models of the company’s playards: the Graco Pack ‘n Play Day2Dream Playard with Bedside Sleeper; the Graco Pack ‘n Play Nuzzle Nest Playard; the Graco Pack ‘n Play Everest Playard; and the Graco Pack ‘n Play Rock ‘n Grow Playard. About 51,000 inclined sleeper accessory products have been recalled because infant fatalities have been reported with other manufacturers’ inclined sleep products after infants rolled from their back to their stomach or side while unrestrained, or under other circumstances (CPSC Recall Notice, No. 21-052, December 16, 2020).

Incidents and injuries. No incidents or injuries have been reported.

Product description. The recall involves the inclined sleeper accessory sold with the following playards and model numbers: Graco Pack ‘n Play Day2Dream Playard & Bedside Sleeper (Model Nos. 2034085, 2048753, and 2053215); the Graco Pack ‘n Play Nuzzle Nest Playard (Model Nos. 1947177 and 1896392); the Graco Pack ‘n Play Everest Playard (Model Nos. 1946902 and 1946903); and the Graco Pack ‘n Play Rock ‘n Grow Playard (Model No. 2105055). The model number is located on a label on the underside of the playard on one of the tubes.

The inclined sleeper accessory is the only portion of the product that is being recalled. Consumers can continue to use the playard, changing station, and bassinet portions of the products without the inclined sleeper accessory according to owner’s manual.

The playards with the inclined sleeper accessory were manufactured in China. They were sold at Babies R Us, BuyBuyBaby, and other stores nationwide; and sold online at Amazon.com, Target.com, and various other websites (1) from November 2017 through September 2020 for the Day2Dream Playard & Bedside Sleeper, (2) May 2015 through December 2018 for the Nuzzle Nest Playard, (3) September 2015 through December 2018 for the Everest Playard, and (4) December 2019 through April 2020 for the Rock ‘n Grow Playard. The playards sold for between $270 and $350.

Remedy. Consumers should stop using the recalled inclined sleeper accessory immediately and contact Graco for a refund for the accessory. Consumers can continue to use the playard portion of the product and other accessories included with the playard.

Important CPSC Recall Remedy Notice Due to COVID-19. CPSC is advising consumers that because of the extraordinary circumstances surrounding COVID-19, some of the remedies identified in recall notices may not be currently available. Consumers should check with the recalling companies for further details. Moreover, the agency notice reminds consumers that CPSC and the recalling firms urge consumers not to use recalled products.
