Corruption of ORC can disable airbags and seat belt pretensioners.
Chrysler has recalled approximately 295,981 2019-2020 Ram 1500 vehicles because the flash memory of the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) may become corrupted, disabling the vehicle’s airbags and seat belt pretensioners. The company warns that disabled airbags and seat belt pretensioners increase the risk of injury in the event of a crash (NHTSA Recall Notice, No. 19V407, Report receipt date: May 31, 2019).
Remedy. Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the ORC or replace it as necessary, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin July 20, 2019.
Contact information. Owners may contact FCA US LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler’s numbers for this recall are V61 and V71.
