IRS grants tax relief to victims of Tropical Storm Imelda in Texas

The IRS has announced tax relief for taxpayers who reside or have a business in the federal disaster areas of Chambers, Harris, Jefferson, Liberty, Montgomery, and Orange Counties in Texas, which were affected by Tropical Storm Imelda that took place from September 17-23, 2019. The relief extends until January 31, 2020 deadlines for filing various returns, including the filing of Form 5500s, and paying taxes otherwise due during the period of September 17, 2019 and before January 31, 2020.

For payroll and excise tax deposits due on or after September 17, 2019, the IRS will waive the failure to deposit penalties if such deposits were made by October 2, 2019.
