IRS grants tax relief to victims of severe storms and flooding in Texas

By Pension and Benefits Editorial Staff

The IRS has announced tax relief for taxpayers who reside or have a business in the federal disaster areas of Cameron, Hidalgo and Willacy Counties in Texas, which were affected by severe storms and flooding that took place on June 24-25, 2019. The relief extends until October 31, 2019 deadlines for filing various returns, including the filing of Form 5500s, and paying taxes otherwise due during the period of June 24, 2019 and before October 31, 2019. This includes taxpayers who have a valid extension to file their 2018 return that is due to end on October 15, 2019.

For payroll and excise tax deposits due on or after June 24, 2019, the IRS will waive the failure to deposit penalties if such deposits were made by July 9, 2019.
