Enrolled retirement plan agent renewal fee to double

By Pension and Benefits Editorial Staff

The IRS has issued proposed regulations relating to enrolled agent and enrolled retirement plan agent user fees. The IRS is proposing to increase the fees for becoming and renewing as an enrolled agent to $67. The fee for renewing as an enrolled retirement plan agent will also increase to $67. The IRS proposed regulations remove the initial enrollment user fee for enrolled retirement plan agents because the IRS no longer offer initial enrollment as an enrolled retirement plan agent.

The regulations will generally be applicable 30 days after the final regulations are published in the Federal Register. The IRS must receive written or electronic comments before January 18, 2019. The IRS must receive requests to speak and outlines of topics for the public hearing, scheduled for January 24, 2019 at 10:00 a.m., by January 18, 2019.
