Charles P. “Chuck” Rettig was confirmed as the new IRS Commissioner on September 12, 2018. Rettig will oversee the implementation of tax reform enacted last December under the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (P.L. 115-97).
The Senate confirmed Rettig’s nomination for IRS Commissioner by a 64-to-33 vote. Rettig received both Democratic and Republican support. John Koskinen’s term as IRS Commissioner ended last November. David Kautter has been serving as Acting IRS Commissioner in the interim. Rettig’s term as IRS Commissioner will expire on November 12, 2022.
