The SSA is extending the expiration dates of the following body systems in the Listing of Impairments in its regulations: Respiratory Disorders and Genitourinary Disorders. The agency is making no other revisions to these body systems in the final rule. The extension ensures that the SSA will continue to have the criteria it needs to evaluate impairments in the affected body systems at step three of the sequential evaluation processes for initial claims and continuing disability reviews. The final rule became effective on September 24, 2019.
The SSA continues to revise and update the listings on a regular basis, including those body systems not affected by this final rule. The agency intends to update the two listings affected by this final rule, as necessary, based on medical advances as quickly as possible, but may not be able to publish final rules revising the listings by their current expiration dates. Therefore, the SSA is extending the expiration dates listed above.
The Respiratory Disorders listing currently expires on October 7, 2019, and is extended to December 10, 2021. The Genitourinary Disorders listing currently expires on December 9, 2019, and also is extended to December 10, 2021.
