On July 18, the House passed the Raise the Wage Act, which as modified would boost the federal minimum wage to $15 an hour by 2025. The President has threatened a veto and it is unlikely to be taken up by the Senate this year.
The voted followed a sweetener adopted by the House Rules Committee on July 16, which made H.R. 582 more palatable by extending the phase-in period by a year, moving the $15 an hour minimum wage effective date from October 1, 2024, to October 1, 2025. The figures reported in the Payroll Management Guide Report Letter 2612, dated July 22, 2019, were erroneous.
