By Payroll and Entitlements Editorial Staff

In its September 2019 issue of tax news, the California Franchise Tax Board (FTB) provides information on a variety of corporate and personal income tax issues, including the following:

  • The FTB informs taxpayers that it will discuss "gig economy"” in a meeting scheduled on October 1, 2019; taxpayers may access more information about the meeting at https://www.ftb.ca.gov/about-ftb/meetings/index.html#Board-meetings.
  • Effective January 1, 2020, the state will implement the "Minimum Essential Coverage Individual Mandate,"which requires taxpayers to maintain minimum essential coverage for each month on or after that date. Taxpayers who fail to have qualifying health coverage will owe a state penalty for each month they lack coverage
  • The IRS encourages everyone to use the new Tax Withholding Estimator, available at https://www.irs.gov/payments/tax-withholding.
