A former U.S. Attorney has joined Troutman Pepper, former Juul Labs senior counsel has returned to King & Spalding, DLA Piper added a litigation attorney, and Dechert added an IP litigation team.
Dechert. IP litigation duo Howard Levine and Jennifer Swan have joined Dechert LLP as partners in the Intellectual Property Group, expanding Dechert’s global life sciences capabilities. Levine has advised on some of the most complex and valuable biotechnology and pharmaceutical litigations over the past 25 years and has been at the forefront of the development of the law in these practice areas. He also has extensive experience in Hatch Waxman Patent Litigation for branded companies. Swan focuses on enforcing and defending patent rights for clients in the chemical, medical device, biotechnology, and pharmaceutical industries, and has significant experience in Hatch Waxman litigation. She also has experience working with life science start-ups.
DLA Piper. DLA Piper announced that Buffy Mims has joined the firm’s Litigation and Regulatory practice as a partner in Washington, D.C. Mims represents clients in the automotive, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, government contracts, and retail industries and handles cases in a wide range of areas such as product liability, toxic torts, commercial, consumer fraud, and internal investigations.
King & Spalding. King & Spalding announced that Marisa Maleck has rejoined the firm as a partner in the FDA and Life Sciences team, which is part of the Government Matters practice. Maleck most recently served as a senior counsel at Juul Labs and as a partner in King & Spalding’s Litigation & Global Disputes practice. Maleck also formerly served as a law clerk to Associate Justice Clarence Thomas of the U.S. Supreme Court and the Honorable William H. Pryor, Jr. of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.
Troutman Pepper. Troutman Pepper has added Charles E. "Charlie" Peeler as a partner in the firm’s Atlanta office, where he will join the White Collar and Government Investigations Practice Group. Peeler formerly served as U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Georgia, where he prosecuted federal crimes with a focus on fraud matters in the areas of health care, defense procurement, securities, tax, and education. He also led investigations into cybercrime, cyber incident response, and data breaches, as well as served on the Department of Justice Subcommittee on Cybercrime and Intellectual Property Issues.
