Health Reform WK-EDGE Wrap Up, TOP STORY: There’s a new doctor in town—Price no longer HHS Secretary, Wright filling in, (Oct. 4, 2017)

By Kathryn S. Beard, J.D.

On Friday, September 29, 2017, HHS Secretary Tom Price M.D. submitted his resignation to President Donald Trump, who accepted the resignation. Price, a former member of the House of Representatives, recently came under fire when his use of private airplanes for official HHS business was disclosed.

Trump designated Don J. Wright, M.D., M.P.H., Deputy Assistant Secretary for Health and Director of the Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, as acting Secretary.

Trump has not yet announced a nominee to replace Price. As a member of the cabinet, any nominee for HHS Secretary must be approved by the Senate.
