Susan Ervin is a financial services lawyer with extensive experience as a federal regulator and as a partner at two major international law firms. She served as a Senior Derivatives Adviser at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission from 2009-2011, participating in the development and implementation of the Dodd-Frank Act. She also served for more than ten years as Chief Counsel of the Division of Trading and Markets at the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission. Ms. Ervin was a partner in the financial services practices of Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP and Dechert LLP. Ms. Ervin was named 2015 DC Derivatives and Futures Law Lawyer of the Year by Best Lawyers and “Outstanding Practitioner” for 2015 by the American Women in Business Law Awards. She is a past Chair of the American Bar Association’s Committee on Derivatives and Futures Law and the New York City Bar Association’s Futures and Derivatives Regulation Committee. She is the author of numerous articles in the field of financial regulation and is a co-author of the leading treatise on the law of futures and derivatives, Derivatives Regulation (Wolters Kluwer L&R, U.S.).
