Mark E. Griffin is a partner in the Washington, D.C., law firm of Davis & Harman LLP. Mr. Griffin specializes in the federal income taxation of life insurance and annuity contracts, including annuity contracts issued in non-qualified markets and in connection with qualified retirement plans, individual retirement arrangements, long-term care arrangements, and structured settlements. In addition, he represents clients before the Internal Revenue Service and the Treasury Department on insurance tax matters. Mr. Griffin frequently speaks and writes on the federal income taxation of insurance products, and is a contributing author to the Annuities Answer Book. He is a member of the District of Columbia Bar, a member of the Section of Taxation of the American Bar Association, and a member and former officer of Federal Bar Association Section of Taxation. He also serves on the Advisory Committee of the Federal Bar Association Insurance Tax Seminar. Prior to his start at the firm, Mr. Griffin was an Attorney-Advisor at the U.S. Tax Court and a Tax Law Specialist at the National Office of the Internal Revenue Service. He received his BA, magna cum laude, from Hamilton College, his JD, cum laude, from Syracuse University College of Law, and his LL.M. in Taxation from Georgetown University Law Center.
