Ms. DeScherer specializes in translating complex legalese into plain, understandable English. In a career spanning more than 40 years, she has written and edited scores of publications for legal and business professionals, including newsletters, continuing professional education courses, and explanatory volumes on tax and employment law topics.
Ms. DeScherer is a graduate of Barnard College of Columbia University. She received her law degree from the University of Maryland School of Law where she was elected to the Order of the Coif and received the Elizabeth Maxwell Carroll Chesnut Scholarship Prize for academic excellence.
Ms. DeScherer began her career associate managing editor for Prentice Hall Information Services where she had primary responsibility for special projects, including explanatory materials on new tax laws. Ms. DeScherer was also a major contributor to Prentice Hall Federal Taxes (now RIA US Tax Reporter) and authored a weekly update bulletin for that product. She was formerly a principal of Editorial Resource Group, Inc., which specialized in developing and creating tax and professional publications. The Internal Revenue Service used continuing professional education materials prepared by Editorial Resource Group for in-house staff training.
Ms. DeScherer’s current publications include the Employee Benefits Answer Book (15th Edition), Business Tax Answer Book, and Wage-Hour Compliance Handbook. She authors Payroll Manager’s Letter, a biweekly publication for payroll professionals.
