Carol V. Calhoun is counsel at Venable LLP, Washington, DC. Her over 35 years of employee benefits practice have focused on all aspects of ERISA and employee benefits, including retirement plans, health plans, fringe benefits, and executive compensation. Her clients include public and private companies in a variety of industries, governmental entities, tax-exempt organizations, and union-negotiated plans, both multiemployer and single employer. Ms. Calhoun represents clients before the Internal Revenue Service, Department of Labor, and Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation. Her counseling practice assists clients in compliance with federal and state requirements, including plan qualification, fiduciary issues, and plan funding. She has also served as an expert witness in several employee benefits cases.
Ms. Calhoun is the author of the Governmental Plans Answer Book (Wolters Kluwer), the legal section of Tobacco Divestment and Fiduciary Responsibility, A Legal and Financial Analysis, and numerous book chapters and articles. Ms. Calhoun received her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center where she was assistant editor for the Tax Lawyer. She received her B.A. from the Johns Hopkins University, where she was selected as a Mayor’s Fellow.
